JAMES BROWN
Born on May 3, 1933, in Barnwell, South Carolina, James Brown is often called the "Godfather of Soul." He grew up in nearby Augusta, Georgia, but his South Carolina roots were a big part of his early years. Known for his electrifying performances and revolutionary sound, Brown played a major role in shaping soul, funk, and even hip-hop music. Songs like "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and "Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag" became anthems for generations.
DARIUS RUCKER
Darius Rucker was born on May 13, 1966, in Charleston, South Carolina.
