Just when you thought State Senator Matt Leber couldn’t drop the bar for Conservative Leadership any lower, his wife hurled a nuclear bomb on social media and stitched a bold Scarlet Letter onto the tunic of his political career.
On the morning of Saturday, August 2, 2025, Michele Leber — a Charleston County School Board member and longtime public figure in her own right — made a series of explosive social media posts that have lit a firestorm in Low Country political circles.
Michele Leber made her assertions in no uncertain terms:
“My husband Senator Matt Leber is with his whore Rebecca Madsen,”
- Michele Leber

Michele Leber didn’t just call out her husband’s affair, she named the alleged mistress publicly and directly. She didn’t stop there — at least two follow-up posts accused Madsen of having “multiple affairs” and hinted at “likely blackmail” against “more married men for over a year,” warning, “Divorces coming!”
“And there are more married men and for over a year Rebecca Madsen.”
-Michele Leber
What makes this latest revelation different is the source: his own wife. Michele Leber is not some fringe player or spurned anonymous account — she’s an elected official, a mother, and until recently, Matt Leber’s most loyal defender. For her to go public in this way suggests not just a personal betrayal, but a total collapse of trust behind the curtain of one of Charleston’s most talked-about political households.

Rebecca Madsen is a South Carolina Republican political operative and former Republican Political candidate who has seemingly developed a reputation for her close involvement with other male political insiders. Her husband, Rob Madsen, took to social media to confirm that he and his wife are divorcing due to her habit of infidelity and expressing that the primary concern should be for the children of both families.
“She has had multiple affairs and likely blackmail on others. Divorces Coming!”
-Michele Leber

If what Mrs. Leber and Mr. Madsen say is true, and we have no reason to believe otherwise, South Carolina State Senator Matt Leber has forfeited his role as a moral political leader in the State. One cannot hold the mantel of “family-man” and “traditionalist values” or “fiscal conservative” while using his position to spit in the faces of his own family.
“In the Senate I will continue to safeguard the sanctity of the family”
- Senator Matt Leber
Apparently, the Senators idea of the “sanctity of the family” includes sneaking around behind them and bedding other women. Make no mistake. Any man with a wife and children holding himself out as a Conservative Leader who then does what the Senators wife has accused him of - is a fraud. Full stop. If the allegations are true the Senator should resign, it for no other reason than to prevent tainting the movements he has associated himself with.
As details continue to develop, The Carolina Courier expresses its deepest sympathies to Michele Leber and her children during what must be a devastating time.

Sad for all. I know Michelle and Matt. I like them both. There is a spiritual aspect to these things, Powers and Principalities stuff. Temptation comes thick and fast for those who oppose the temporary king of this world. I’m sorry for Matt and his family that he did not overcome it. Also sorry for the temptress, who is being used by said spiritual darkness, whether she realizes it or not. None of us is perfect, and all of us would look bad with our worst sins exposed in the harsh light of day for all to see (and if you think you wouldn’t, you probably lack humility). Matt’s political career will be severely damaged by this, inevitably. But I pray for him, for Michelle, and especially for their family. And I pray for Ms Madsen’s family as well. If these allegations are true, the role of temptress is one she has played more than once. But of course it’s her that’s being played.
I will further add that Conservatives are particularly susceptible to charges of hypocrisy and immorality. That is because they have morals and standards that they openly espouse and believe. The Left’s sophistry and embrace of moral relativism and postmodern deconstructionism often allows them to slither away from such charges, as in the infamous example of Bill Clinton. They don’t have any firm morals or standards to violate, nor any compunction about contradicting anything they’ve said before. But that doesn’t mean they are less guilty. And in general the public finds such slickness nauseating.
